Horicon has made a major addition to its leadership team with the appointment of Andrew Selgrad as middle and high school assistant principal, athletic and activities director, and head football coach.

The hire gives the district a leader whose background reaches across academics, school leadership, student activities, and football.

Selgrad arrives with experience as a teacher, instructional leader, and accomplished coach, bringing a profile that fits both the school day and the programs that shape student life outside the classroom.

Across his career, Selgrad has served in multiple Wisconsin school districts and has worked as an AP science teacher and instructional coach, building strong relationships with students, staff, and families while holding high expectations for learning, leadership, and behavior.

That wider background gives Horicon more than a football coach. It brings in an educator who has worked closely with students in several settings and understands the demands of both academics and activities.

On the football side, Selgrad brings more than 20 years of coaching experience and one of the stronger résumés a small school could hope to add.

His accomplishments include leading Columbus High School to a WIAA Division 4 state championship.

He has also earned recognition as the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association and Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Year and the Associated Press High School Football Coach of the Year.

Selgrad’s arrival gives Horicon a hire with proven success and broad responsibility from day one.

He will step into a position that carries influence across school culture, student development, and athletics, while also taking over the football program with a record that already commands attention around the state.

He also made it clear that the opportunity means more to him than a job title alone.

“My family and I are excited to join the Horicon family,” Selgrad said.

“Joining the School District of Horicon is an exciting opportunity to become part of a community that truly lives its mission to Educate, Engage, and Empower Every Day. There is a clear sense of Marshmen Pride here and I am excited to contribute any way I can.”

That message is likely to land well in a district where school identity and community support matter.

Early reaction around the announcement reflected that excitement, with parents and supporters welcoming Selgrad and pointing to what they hope will be a strong next chapter for Horicon.

Selgrad is a graduate of St. Mary’s Springs High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, a master’s degree in Educational Technology from Marian College, and an Educational Leadership degree from Concordia University. He and his wife, Amber, have one son, Eleazar.

For Horicon, this is a hire that reaches well beyond one season. The district is adding an experienced school leader, an accomplished coach, and a familiar kind of competitor for a role that touches nearly every part of student life.
