The move puts the program in the hands of a coach with college experience, deep ties to the city, and a background that already connects directly to Southfield football.
Robinson arrives from Wayne State, where he was listed in 2026 as defensive backs coach, defensive coordinator, and recruiting coordinator.
His recent work there gave him responsibility across the defense and on the recruiting side, while his coaching path also included time as interim head coach at Wayne State from November 2022 through January 2023.
The Southfield connection gives the hire extra weight. Wayne State’s coaching profile identifies Robinson as a Southfield native and a former assistant athletic director at Southfield A and T High School during the 2017 to 2018 school year.
Before that, he built his own playing résumé at Wayne State as a four year letterwinner and earlier starred for Southfield High, where he earned major all area honors after a senior season that included 92 tackles and seven interceptions.

A hometown coach takes over the Warriors
Southfield is not bringing in someone who needs to be introduced to the area or the program’s culture.
Robinson knows the city, knows the school landscape, and already has both high school and college level experience on his résumé.
That makes this a cleaner fit than a standard outside hire, especially for a program looking for stability and a stronger base heading into the next phase.
The last sentence is an inference based on his Southfield ties and prior leadership roles.
His coaching background also gives Southfield more than just local familiarity. At Wayne State, Robinson worked across several roles over multiple seasons, including defensive coordinator duties in 2022 and again in 2025, while also handling recruiting and defensive backs.
Earlier stops included Northwood and Fairmont State, adding more college experience before this move back into the high school ranks.
Southfield is handing the program to a coach whose background is rooted in defense, player development, and recruiting.
For a high school team trying to build consistency, that profile usually points toward structure and accountability as much as play calling. That final point is an inference based on Robinson’s recent responsibilities at Wayne State.
For Southfield, the decision resets the program around a familiar name with a local football history. For Robinson, it is a return to a city where his own path started before moving through Wayne State and college coaching stops around the region.
Now he comes back as the head coach of the Warriors, with the job of shaping what Southfield football looks like next.
Southfield has made a hometown hire for its football program, bringing in Antwon Robinson as the new head coach of the Southfield Warriors.
