Baton Rouge is mourning the death of Joshua Robinson Jr., a 17 year old and a rising senior at Scotlandville Magnet High School, after a shooting shortly after midnight on June 10 in the cityโs Plank Road area.
Police said the shooting happened around 12:18 a.m. at an apartment complex on Plank Road near Harding Boulevard, where one victim was found with multiple gunshot wounds and later died at the hospital. A second victim also went to the hospital with a non life threatening gunshot wound.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Coronerโs Office identified the teenager killed as Joshua Robinson, and family members later confirmed he was a student at Scotlandville Magnet High School.
The school responded with a message of support for students and said counselors are available to help those dealing with grief, anxiety or emotional distress after the loss.
A school community left grieving
The news has hit Scotlandville hard because Robinson was still in the middle of his high school years, with a senior season ahead of him.
School shared the tragedy on social media and opened counseling support for students trying to process what happened. The case remains under investigation, and police continue to ask anyone with information about the shooting to contact Crime Stoppers.
Friends, classmates and community members have already begun filling social media with grief and disbelief. A close family member wrote,
“I wish I had the words to ease your pain right now. I am so sorry for your loss nephew. This hurtsโฆsending prayers and love. I love you Joshua Robinson Sr.”
One commenter wrote, โRip lil Josh.โ Another said, โNot another classmate, Rest in peace Joshua.โ
Others sent prayers for the Robinson family and for everyone at Scotlandville who is trying to cope with the loss. The reaction shows how quickly a young life can leave a mark on a school and a neighborhood, especially when it ends in violence.
The pain in the comments also reflects the fear that follows another teen shooting in Baton Rouge.
Some messages pointed to the need for families and schools to check on one another more often.
One commenter wrote that the community needs to love each other better and spend more time away from social media and back with family and faith. Another said the loss was heartbreaking because Joshua was โjust a baby.โ
That kind of reaction is common after tragedies like this, but it does not make the loss any easier. Joshua was a student, a teammate to classmates, and a young man whose school still had more to give him.
For the people who knew him, the memory now is not just about the shooting on Plank Road.
It is about the person he was before that night, and the hole his death leaves behind.
The school district said support is in place for students who need it.
Meanwhile, the investigation continues, and the community waits for more answers about what led to the shooting that took Joshuaโs life and left another person injured.
For Scotlandville, this is now a time for grief, prayer and support, but also for remembering a young man who should have had years ahead of him
